-Muy bien, Neni, y feliz de estar otra vez en contacto con ustedes.

¿En qué lugar del mundo te encuentras?

-Vivo en Roma conservando siempre mi casa de París.

-¿Cómo ves el mundo luego de la etapa de pandemia?

-Después de la pandemia el mundo se pone lentamente en movimiento. Algunas cosas han de quedar por largo tiempo. Por ejemplo, al igual que en el Oriente, se adoptará la sana costumbre de utilizar mascarilla para disminuir la posibilidad de contagios varios. Se han exacerbado problemas conductuales que ya existían antes.

De todas maneras, en particular el mundo occidental, está atravesando una crisis de valores con ideas que intentan devaluar algunos conceptos socio-culturales que tuvieron vigencia muchos años.

Así como la fiebre del "veganismo" ha llevado a ciertos grupos a agredir a gente que no es vegana, desde el punto de vista político, reverdece la intolerancia que llevó a las sociedades a guerras terribles como la Segunda Guerra Mundial después del advenimiento del nazismo y a guerras sucesivas por la dominación de Recursos Naturales.

Por suerte en pocos años el petróleo dejará de ser estratégico. Pero nosotros todavía viviremos en medio del caos actual.

-¿Qué nuevo proyecto tenés esta temporada con tu compañía discográfica?

-En realidad habría que preguntarle a la compañía qué proyectos tiene para conmigo (risas).

El alto impacto que han tenido mis últimas grabaciones a nivel global (aun siendo direccionadas a un público poco numeroso) parece anticipar una muy buena continuación. Ya me habían extendido el contrato hasta 2025 y hace unos meses lo han llevado hasta 2032.

¿Por qué? Porque el catálogo (que es realmente lo que vale pues en términos relativos es eterno) es lo que está en el centro de interés de grandes corporaciones y en particular de una de ellas quien ya ha acordado adquirirlo.

Las grandes compañías viven del efímero éxito que otorga grandes beneficios en pocos días. Pero la supervivencia de ellas se apoya en su catálogo.

-¿Has grabado nuevos temas?

-Así es. He grabado muchísimo, al punto de poder decir que, publicando un álbum por año a partir de hoy, llegaremos hasta el 2032.

Y seguiré grabando a comienzos de julio o agosto 2022 siempre en la línea estética de Casualmente Clásico que fue el remate con el que logré un perfil único de artista muy personal. Ya han salido al ruedo algunos intentos por imitar el producto. Pero fui el primero, quien lo ideó y aprobó el duro examen del público. Además lograr el nivel de inversión económica que se ha realizado y que continúa, es muy difícil en los tiempos actuales donde se intenta reemplazar a músicos por instrumentación digital. Las hay muy buenas, pero nada reemplaza una sinfónica y debido a los costos del mundo actual, casi todos escapan a esas erogaciones… Lo vemos en las mínimas cosas.

Detesto, por ejemplo, ir a tomar algo y ver que las bebidas vienen en botellas mínimas a precios de las grandes. Y así es todo, desde un café hasta una grabación.

-¿Cómo definirías tu perfil de artista en este momento?

-Me pones en una dificultad para definirme, pues no puedo hablar de mí mismo. Pero te diré cosas que otros me han expresado. Soy un solitario que no se doblega a las modas actuales, ignoro los grandes shows plenos de efectos especiales, brillos, luces de colores y estridencias. Soy uno de los últimos exponentes del antiguo espectáculo donde un cantante seducía solamente con su capacidad de comunicar con dulzura y pasión. El momento actual me excluye del panorama musical. Soy para públicos sentimentales a los que ya no se tienen en cuenta, excepto en la lírica o lírica popular.

Un gran productor francés llamado Renaldo Cerri, me dijo en 1992 " Si Jacques Brel desembarcase hoy en el mundo, no habría lugar para él”. Pero yo insisto en mi camino. Es mi estética, no conozco otra. Amo lo que hago, no me importa el éxito económico. Para esto vine al mundo y lo estoy realizando. También creo que hay una fatiga general a causa del ruido, la incultura, la violencia y la banalización del arte.

-¿Cuándo comienzan las nuevas grabaciones?

-Las orquestaciones están en plena elaboración. Ya tengo dos pistas (Play Backs) terminadas y son de una belleza alucinante. Ya te he comentado que retomaré las grabaciones en julio/agosto de este año.

-¿Qué disfrutas más de tu profesión?

-Hacer lo que quiero sin pensar en el dinero. Esa etapa terrible ya ha pasado para mí. Estoy en un hermoso atardecer cuya mejor definición encontré en la canción “September of my Years”

-¿Los shows en vivo tienen un objetivo de marketing?

-Así es, pero no en mi caso. Ya no me interesan las presentaciones en vivo. Me han extenuado. Tres conciertos sumamente exitosos, nada menos que en Carnegie Hall de Nueva York, sumados a una gira que finalizó en las Islas Caimán me convencieron de que estaba frente a una etapa felizmente terminada. Decidimos convertirme en un artista de grabaciones, como otros tantos que agotaron su paciencia.

-¿Cómo ves al ambiente musical en medio de la crisis mundial?

-Lo veo como se perfilaba ya en la Francia de comienzo de los 90. La afluencia masiva de grandes contingentes migratorios del mal llamado tercer mundo, a las grandes ciudades de occidente, ha creado un nuevo mercado por el cual las grandes compañías se han lanzado a la conquista feroz.

Se sobrevalora lo fácil en detrimento de lo elaborado. Se está construyendo un mundo a la medida de grandes mayorías que nunca han leído un libro, no han tenido acceso a la educación ni al arte con mayúscula. Hoy una persona pega un plátano en una tela, lo cubre o mancha de brea y eso puede terminar en una exposición dentro de un museo de alto standing. Estamos presenciando la destrucción de cosas bellas en nombre de una libertad creativa que no es tal.

-¿Cómo te proyectas en el futuro más cercano?

-No me proyecto. Vivir el presente es ya, por sí mismo, una aventura conmovedora.

-¿Cuál es tu sueño?

-Poder cantar hasta más allá de los noventa años de edad, como Doris Day que vivió hasta los 97 y su última grabación la realizó magníficamente a los 89/90 años de edad. Y vivir como mi madre, con todo su cerebro perfecto hasta los 95 años de edad cuando partió dulcemente.

-Where are you in the world?

-I live in Rome while keeping my house in Paris.

-How do you see the world after the Pandemic stage?

-After the pandemic the world is slowly moving. Some things will remain for a long time. For example, as in the East, the healthy habit of wearing masks will be adopted to reduce the possibility of various contagions, behavioural problems that existed before have been exacerbated, and the Western world in particular is going through a crisis of values with ideas that are trying to devalue some socio-cultural concepts that have been in place for many years. Just as the fever of "veganism" has led certain groups to attack people who are not VEGAN, from a political point of view, the intolerance that led societies to terrible wars such as the Second World War after the advent of Nazism and successive wars for the domination of natural resources is being revived.Fortunately in a few years oil will no longer be strategic, but we will still live in the midst of the current chaos.

-What new project do you have this season with your record company?

-Actually you would have to ask the company what projects they have for me (laughs).

The high impact that my last recordings have had on a global level (even though they are aimed at a small audience) seems to anticipate a very good continuation.

Why? Because the catalogue (which is really what it is worth because in relative terms it is eternal) is what is at the centre of the interest of big corporations

and in particular one of them who has already agreed to acquire it.

The big companies live on the ephemeral success that brings huge profits in a few days, but their survival relies on their catalogue.

-Have you recorded any new tracks?

-I have recorded a lot, to the point of being able to say that, releasing one album per year from today, we will go until 2032, and I will continue recording at the beginning of July or August 2022, always in the aesthetic line of Casualmente Clásico, which was the culmination with which I achieved a UNIQUE profile of a very personal artist, and there have already been some attempts to imitate the product. But I was the first one, who came up with it and passed the tough test of the public. Besides, to achieve the level of economic investment that has been made and continues to be made, is very difficult in today's times where there is an attempt to replace musicians with digital instrumentation. There are very good ones, but nothing replaces a symphony, and because of the costs of today's world, almost all of them are beyond the reach of such expenditure. We see it in the smallest things: 'I hate, for example, to go for a drink and see that drinks come in tiny bottles at the price of the big ones. And that's everything, from coffee to a recording.

-How would you define your profile as an artist at the moment?

-You make it difficult for me to define myself, because I can't talk about myself. But I will tell you things that OTHERS HAVE EXPRESSED TO ME, I am a loner who does not bow to the current fashions, I ignore the big shows full of special effects, glitter, coloured lights and stridencies, I am one of the last exponents of the old show where a singer seduced only with his capacity to communicate with sweetness and passion. The present moment excludes me from the musical panorama, I am for sentimental audiences who are no longer taken into account, except in the lyric or popular lyric... A great French producer called Renaldo Cerri, told me in 1992 " If Jacques Brel disembarked today in the world, there would be no place for him. But I insist on my way. It is my aesthetic, I don't know any other. I love what I do, I don't care about economic success, that's what I came into the world for and I'm doing it. I also believe that there is a general fatigue because of the noise, the lack of culture, the violence and the trivialisation of art.

-When do the new recordings start?

-The orchestrations are in the process of being worked on. I already have two (2) tracks (Play Backs) finished and they are mind-blowingly beautiful. I have already told you that I will resume recording in July/August 2022.

-What do you enjoy the most about your profession?

-Doing what I want to do without thinking about money. That terrible stage is over for me. I'm in a beautiful sunset which I found best defined in the song September of my Years.

-Do live shows have a marketing purpose?

-Yes, they do... But not in my case. I'm not interested in live shows anymore. They have exhausted me. Three (3) very successful concerts, at CARNEGIE HALL in New York no less (2015/16 and 18) plus a tour that ended in the Cayman Islands convinced me that I was facing a stage that was happily over... We decided to turn me into a recording artist, like so many others who had exhausted their patience.

-How do you see the music scene in the midst of the world crisis?

-I see it as it was already emerging in France at the beginning of the 1990s. The massive influx of large migratory contingents from the so-called "third world" to the big cities of the West has created a new

third world, to the big cities of the West, has created a new market for which the big companies have launched themselves into a ferocious conquest.

The easy is overvalued to the detriment of the elaborated. A world is being built for large majorities who have never read a book.

-I don't project myself. Living in the present is already, by itself, a moving adventure.

-What is your dream?

-To be able to sing until I am over 90 years old, like Doris Day who lived until she was 97 and made her last recording magnificently at the age of 89/90. And to live like my mother, with all her perfect brain until she was 95 years old when she passed away sweetly.
